When Happy Campervan Hire looked at the UK market they found little or no provision for the disabled sector. There was no provision for easy access campervans. They decided therefore to commission a special build vehicle and it is now ready for use.

The main components of the design are a lift that can lift any wheelchair and passenger. The lift can be operated by the wheelchair user or companion via a controller attached to lift by cable.

All the interior furnishings have been designed so that they provide adequate clearance for a wheelchair throughout the length of the van’s living space.

The toilette is move able for ease of access within the wet-room on board.

There is a double foldaway bed that converts into a sofa. Also at the rear of the van there is a separate single bed that can be curtained off for privacy. This bed can be used if a carer accompanies a person with limited mobility.

Charles Sandham, one of the Directors at Happy Campervan, expressed his delight on how the vehicle has turned out “ We asked ourselves why should people with limited mobility consider their adventure days over? We have created a bespoke easy access vehicle which we believe is the first of this type. Happy Campervan have two more vehicles in line for conversion to easy access and eagerly await feedback. Hopefully for the 2020 season we will have three vehicles operational.
